Berkshire High School's new football stadium, Great Lakes Cheese Stadium, opened its gates for the first time on Friday night, as the Badgers hosted the Kirtland Hornets in a non-conference matchup.
The stadium, which seats 5,000 fans, features a state-of-the-art artificial turf field, a new press box, and a concessions area. The stadium is also equipped with a new sound system and a video scoreboard.
"This is a great day for Berkshire High School," said Athletic Director Rick Franz. "This stadium is a beautiful facility that will provide our student-athletes with a first-class experience."
The Badgers wasted no time in breaking in their new home, scoring a touchdown on their first possession. Berkshire went on to win the game 42-8, improving their record to 2-0 on the season.
"It was a great feeling to play in this new stadium," said senior quarterback Austin Smith. "The crowd was amazing, and the field was perfect. It was a great night to be a Badger."
